Vera frowned as she looked around her. Aside from herself, and the kit beside her, there seemed to be no one around. Not one cat, dog, human... no living creatures at all. Had the whole world died during her absence...?
She sighed, then looked down at the energetic little kit.
"I-I'm sorry, Sandy.... It seems like no one's around.."
The kit's excited expression quickly changed to one of shock and confusion.
"Huh? Are you sure, Ma--"
Vera cut her off with a nod of her head.
"Ja...."
The kit hung her head in disappointment, making Vera feel rather guilty. She knew this was her fault. She had waited too long to bring Sandy out into the real world..
"I know you were you looking forward to meeting everyone.... I-I'm sorry it had to be this way..."
